Meet Pastor Jeff
Jeff Christianson began equipping biblical counselors in 1998 under the mentorship of Pastor Chuck Smith at Calvary Chapel Bible College. He was also discipled by Pastor Bob Hoekstra, whose charge to “make disciples using Counseling God’s Way” still shapes Jeff’s ministry today.
He now serves as Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel Glenwood Springs, current President of the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC), a Board Member of Blue Letter Bible, and Founder of the Biblical Counseling Academy.
Pastor Jeff also teaches at multiple universities. With over 25 years of marriage and ministry alongside his wife Jennie, his calling remains clear: to equip the Church with the sufficiency of Christ and the Word of God.

This foundational message was delivered at the Tri-Cities Biblical Counseling Summit. In it, Pastor Jeff Christianson unpacks the heart of biblical counseling: that Jesus Himself is our Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6), and His Word is sufficient for every need of the soul.
Alternate Outline Topics:
The Sufficiency of Scripture in Soul Care
Affirms that God’s Word is fully sufficient for counseling, providing everything needed for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).
Discipleship Through Biblical Counseling
Explores how counseling is a form of intentional discipleship, grounded in the Great Commission and the local church (Matthew 28:19–20).
The Role of the Holy Spirit in Counseling
Teaches that effective soul care depends on the empowering, guiding work of the Holy Spirit, not mere human wisdom (John 14:26).
Common Counseling Issues: A Biblical Response
Addresses real-life struggles like anxiety, anger, and depression with biblical truth, hope, and the mind of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Equipping the Church to Counsel
Casts a vision for training pastors and lay leaders to shepherd one another biblically, fulfilling Ephesians 4:12–13.
Avoiding the Pitfalls of Pop Psychology in the Pulpit
Warns against integrating secular methods into ministry, calling pastors back to the authority and sufficiency of Scripture (Colossians 2:8).
