A Message From Our President Jeff Christianson

Like you, and the rest of humanity, I learned how to rely upon my own sufficiency through my earliest experiences in life. It was natural. The humanistic worldview teaches that for humankind to make a way for himself in the world he is called to do what he can do and be what he can be. He is the captain of his own destiny and what he makes of himself will be his lot in life. We are all familiar with the kingdom of man.

The kingdom of heaven resembles very little of the kingdom of men. It’s an entirely different worldview. Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world” (John 18:36).We are reminded that His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts; they are higher than the heavens are above the earth (Isaiah 55:8). In God’s kingdom, we are called upon to learn to live by the sufficiency of God rather than the sufficiency of man.

I love what Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 1:12, “For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that we conducted ourselves in the world in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom but by the grace of God, and more abundantly toward you.”

The apostle Paul conducted himself in godly sincerity; a sincerity that did not come out of fleshly wisdom. Think of his ministry. He ministered throughout the world, traveling and sharing the word of God. The wisdom of man would be insufficient for such a mighty work. According to 2 Corinthians, the whole of Paul’s ministry occurred by the grace of God. Godly living comes only by the grace of God and we who believe are called to live godly lives.

It is my prayer that God would affect our hearts and lives as we explore Counseling Life’s Most Difficult Issues, and that you will discover Christ’s sufficiency for godly living.

A Message from Dr. Lou Priolo

WHAT COMES TO MIND when you hear the word conflict? Do you see conflict as something that is always wrong, or perhaps as something to be avoided at all cost? Or do you see conflict as something that can be good—and even necessary—something that God Himself requires you to participate in and even to initiate one at times? Do you see conflict as something that, if avoided (or eschewed), may displease God?

It is my prayer that this course will equip Biblical Counselors to resolve conflict in a broad variety of contexts.

As a marriage counselor, I hope that this will be a blessing to many counselors who want to learn how to help couples resolve conflicts quickly, effectively, and with a minimum amount of sin. As a family counselor, I believe that the concepts, if practiced regularly, will help many counselors, parents and children learn to do likewise. As a pastor/elder, I know that church pastors, ministry leaders and church members who understand and practice the biblical principles and directives will be able to prevent and resolve church-splitting schisms that dishonor God, wreck friendships, and sometimes spiritually cripple those who have been involved in them.

As a counselor to missionaries, I know that Christian workers who are willing to conduct their relationships according to the Bible will be more effective in ministry and will prevent many of the interpersonal relationship problems (or so-called “personality conflicts”) that account for the majority of missionaries returning from the field years before they imagined. As a college and seminary professor, I hope that this training will be used as a reference for biblical conflict-resolution courses.

ABOUT LOU PRIOLO

Lou Priolo is a graduate of Calvary Bible College and Liberty University, as well as holding a Doctorate of Divinity from Calvary University. He has been a full-time biblical counselor since 1985. He is the author of several books including The Heart of Anger, The Complete Husband, Teach Them Diligently, Pleasing People and Resolving Conflict, and he is the editor of the Resources for Biblical Living series of booklets by P&R Publishers dealing with numerous counseling issues.

In addition to his books, Lou has dozens of recordings extrapolated from his years of lectures, teaching, and preaching.

Lou is a member of the International Association of Biblical Counselors, a Fellow in the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors, and is currently Director of Biblical Counseling at Christ Covenant Buckhead in Atlanta.

He has started several counseling centers throughout Alabama and Georgia. He travels frequently throughout the United States and abroad training pastors, laymen, and fellow counselors, as well as conducting a wide variety of seminars, through Competent to Counsel International, the nonprofit organization which he founded in 2013.

Lou and his wife, Kim, have been married since 1987 and are the parents of two grown daughters, Sophia and Gabriella.
